Sunrise Stallions sets 2016 fees, stallion shows January 16th: Leading New York Sire Big Brown to Stand for $10,000

PINE PLAINS, NEW YORK, December 15, 2015—Champion Big Brown, who is enjoying a career-best year with progeny earnings of over $5.2 million making him New York’s leading sire, will stand for $10,000 in 2016 at Dutchess Views Farm in Pine Plains.

“Big Brown has proven that he can get superior runners with the likes of multiple Grade 1 winner Dortmund and Saratoga Grade 1-placed Coach Inge and Kiss to Remember,” said Eric Bishop, who manages Big Brown’s stud career on behalf of Sunrise Stallions. “He covered his biggest book of mares with 138 in 2015, his first year in New York, and he will be well supported again in the upcoming season.”

Sunrise Stallions, which also stands 2012 New York record-breaking freshman sire Frost Giant at Keane Stud in Amenia and his full brother Heavy Breathing at Dutchess Views, stood Big Brown at an introductory fee of $8,500 in 2015.

Breeders are invited to inspect the stallions during open houses next month at the respective farms. Big Brown and Heavy Breathing will be available at Dutchess Views on January 16 from 1 to 4 p.m., while Frost Giant will be shown at Keane Stud on January 16 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

With six stakes winners to date in 2015 who together have won ten stakes, including five at the graded/group level, Big Brown has offspring who have succeeded on dirt and turf, going long and short, just as he did in his exceptional racing career. Nationally, Big Brown ranks ahead of Kentucky sires including Arch, Elusive Quality, Broken Vow, Stormy Atlantic and Awesome Again, who all have more runners and stand for higher fees.

Frost Giant, who is by Giant’s Causeway and from the sire-rich female family that includes Super Saver (sire of Breeders’ Cup Sprint winner Runhappy), Not For Love, Mutakddim, Rhythm, former leading New York sire Bluegrass Cat and Girolamo, will stand for $7,500 in 2016, a reduction from his $10,000 fee in 2015. Frost Giant’s largest crop to date will be two-year-olds in 2016, and the Sunrise team anticipates there are many Frost Giant stars on the horizon.

Frost Giant currently ranks seventh among New York’s leading sires, with multiple stakes winner Loki’s Vengeance and juvenile filly stakes winner Frosty Margarita to his credit.

Heavy Breathing, whose first foals arrived in 2015, will remain at $2,500 in 2016.
