In the first session of Fasig-Tipton’s Kentucky October yearling sale, which began its four-day stand on Monday at Newtown Paddocks in Lexington, the top New York-bred of 14 individuals sold was a Candy Ride (ARG) filly bred by The New Hill Farm, LLC who brought $150,000. The top New York-bred colt, sired by The Factor, was purchased for $95,000. Both sale yearlings are the first registered New York-bred foals for their dams.

The $150,000 Candy Ride filly (Hip 105), who was purchased by Conquest Stables, is the second foal out of Dade Babe, a Florida-bred graded winner by Cimarron Secret. Two of Dade Babe’s siblings are stakes performers and more graded black type appears under her second dam Doonazon, headed by graded stakes winner of multiple stakes races Sambacarioca. The filly was consigned by Lane’s End, Agent and had sold previously at the Fasig-Tipton Select yearling sale in Saratoga over the summer for $100,000 to GPB.

The male New York-bred yearling topper of the first session by The Factor, Hip 37, was bred by Maurice F. Casey III and is out of Cedar Run’s Emblem. His new owner, who went to $95,000 to secure the purchase is FHMB. Cedar Run’s Emblem, a West Virginia-bred daughter of Our Emblem, has already produced three winners from three starters. Her colt by The Factor was purchased last year by Tim Hamlin as a weanling at the Keeneland November sale for $80,000.

Fasig-Tipton’s Kentucky October yearling sale was expanded this year from three days to four to accommodate 1,485 entries, up 20% from last year’s initial catalog of 1,236. The sale continues on Tuesday through Thursday, October 22, beginning each day at 10:00 a.m.
