Mark Valentine’s Finger Lakes-based Clean Jean, previously tied for first place nationally with one other horse for number of races won in 2012, upped the ante on Tuesday with her tenth victory of the year. Three horses now sit in second place with nine wins.

The 4-year-old chestnut daughter of Ecton Park won Tuesday’s third race at Finger Lakes by two lengths under regular jockey Dean Frates to bring her win tally to 10 from 19 starts. [VIDEO]

Clean Jean was claimed by her trainer Sal Iorio, Jr. on May 1 for a tag of $4,000. With her latest victory the filly improved her 2012 earnings to $123,536 and increased her overall bankroll to $125,149.

Bred by Fran Ubbink, the filly’s name is an affectionate tribute to Ubbink’s mother, who, as her daughter reports, was always very careful each week to make sure the house was immaculate before the cleaning lady came.

Ubbink, who keeps in close touch with the filly and always attends the races when she runs, said on Wednesday, “December 31st can’t come soon enough.”
