Encaustic, a younger full brother to nationally ranked top 20 sire Include, will stand in 2013 at Beverly Least’s Foggy Bottom Farm near Geneseo for $2,000 live foal.

The 8-year-old son of Broad Brush, who was bred in Maryland by Fitzhugh LLC, started 46 times over the course of five campaigns and won 12 races, including five stakes: the Mountaineer Mile Handicap, Labor Day Stakes at Mountaineer Park, Golden Bear Stakes at Indiana Downs, Joseph French Memorial Stakes at Delaware Park, and Native Dancer Stakes at Laurel. Placed in nine additional stakes races, including the Grade 3 Texas Mile at Lone Star, Encaustic retired in 2010 with a record of 12-11-6 and earnings of $645,330. He holds a current track record at Laurel Park of 1:42.13 for “about 1 1/16 miles.”

Encaustic’s dam Illeria, a graded stakes winner of $392,691 by Stop the Music, has produced 10 winners from 13 starters, led by Grade 1 winner, millionaire ($1,659,560) and sire Include, also by Broad Brush, who stands at Airdrie Stud in Midway, Kentucky and currently sits at number 20 in the national sire rankings. Nine of Illeria’s foals are stakes performers, including Grade 3-winner Magic Broad (Broad Brush).

Least told The Blood-Horse, “We are so lucky to have Encaustic coming to New York and Foggy Bottom Farm. He not only was a strong and sound race horse, but his sire and dam line are what we all look for when breeding.

“He gives consistency and quality, not only with Broad Brush on the sire line, but a very impressive dam line with full brothers and sisters with impressive success to “include” his full brother Include. It is important to also note how well balanced and correct his conformation is. He is a very nice horse on all levels.”
