Fifty-five New York-bred yearlings changed hands Monday at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic Eastern fall yearling sale at the Maryland State Fairgrounds in Timonium, led by a bay colt by Freud, who was bred by 2009 New York Breeder of the Year Anthony Grey in partnership with Wagon Hill Farm LLC.

The sale colt (Hip 205), who was foaled on April 2, 2011 at Keane Stud in Amenia, sold to Chalk Racing LLC for $85,000 from the consignment of Mark Toothaker, Agent IV.

The Freud colt is the second foal out of Trippi’s Dream, a five-time Florida-bred winner by Trippi ($68,996). Trippi’s Dream is a half sister to Grade 3 winner Watchem Smokey (Alphabet Soup), and their dam, Karon’s Dream (Geiger Counter), was a stakes-placed juvenile.

Trippi’s Dream’s first foal is a 2-year-old colt by Value Plus named Mr. Lit, who has not yet started. She currently has a weanling filly by Noonmark, who, like Freud, stands at Becky Thomas and Dennis Narlinger’s Sequel Stallions New York in Hudson, and was bred in 2012 to Big Brown.

The 55 New York-bred yearlings who sold on Monday grossed $701,000, commanding an average price of $12,645. The $9,000 median for the New Yorkers was up 28.6% percent over last year ($7,000) and twice the median price in 2010 ($4,500).
