The top New York-bred seller in Tuesday’s single-session Fasig-Tipton Midlantic fall yearling sale was a bay colt by Not For Love who brought $37,000. The top filly, by Colonel John, fetched $27,000, and the standout New York-sired New York-bred was a $30,000 colt by Girolamo.
The $37,000 New York-bred sale topper, Hip 214, who is named Rocky Love, was sold by Marshall W. Silverman, agent, to Rod McVey. Silverman purchased the colt in the summer at the Fasig-Tipton New York-bred preferred sale for $13,500 from Fort Christopher’s Thoroughbreds, agent.
Bred by John Martin McDermott and Laura Griffen McDermott, the colt is out of Race Rocks (IRE), an unraced daughter of Rock of Gibraltar (IRE) who has produced three winners from three starters and is a half-sister to $1.4 million dollar-earner and Grade 1 winner Peeping Tom (Eagle Eyed).
The colt’s second dam is stakes placed Artful Pleasure (Nasty and Bold), and appearing in the third generation, among other blacktype winners, is $2.2 million dollar-earner and sire Sun King. The family also includes the dam of graded stakes winners Allamerican Bertie and Hurricane Bertie.
The New York-bred filly topper, Hip 240, is dark bay or brown individual by Colonel John bred by Doug and Felicia Branham. Out of juvenile stakes winner Secretsoftheheart (Put It Back) and consigned by Blake-Albina Thoroughbred Services LLC, agent, the Breeders’ Cup-nominated filly was hammered down to LC Racing. The filly’s third dam Secret Elegance, an unraced daughter of Secretariat, is the dam of multiple stakes winner Profound Secret. She was a $3,500 weanling purchase at Keeneland’s January sale this year.
The top New York-sired New York-bred at the Midlantic sale and second top-seller overall, Hip 171, a bay colt by Girolamo, went by way of private sale from the consignment of Harry L. Landry Bloodstock LLC, agent, to trainer Gary Sciacca, agent. Bred by Joe DiRico, the bay is the first foal out of Nurse Disco, an unraced daughter of Disco Rico who has three winning siblings, topped by Gatto Nero, a ten-time winner of over $170,000. New York-bred stakes winners Demon Damon and Royal Ben appear under the colt’s third dam, and further down the pedigree we find stakes winners Bee a Scout, Fit to Scout and Scout Command.
The filly’s sire Girolamo, a Grade 1-winning son of A.P. Indy for Darley, began his stud career in 2012 at Becky Thomas and Dennis Narlinger’s Sequel Stallions New York.
