Uno Emayo, a bay gelding from the first crop of D’ Funnybone, gave his sire his first progeny winner on Saturday when he took the Belmont Park opener with a late surge up the rail.

Owned by Carl Lizza Racing Stables, LLC in partnership with the gelding’s trainer Rudy Rodriguez, Uno Emayo (5-2 second choice) was looking to improve on a third place finish to Dr. Shane in his debut on May 29.

Despite an early bobble, Uno Emayo was sharp out of the gate from his rail post under Javier Castellano. He then dropped off the pace set by No Entiendo to sit a pocket journey.

After saving ground through the far turn, the gelding cut the corner, raced evenly in upper stretch and, with a final surge up the fence as runner up No Entiendo drifted out late, captured the victory by a neck. The final time for 5 1/2 furlongs was 1:06.70. [VIDEO]

Bred by Glasscock Financial Services LLC, Uno Emayo is the second foal out of Cinco Emayo, a winning daughter of Broken Vow. Purchased as a weanling by Andrea McNeely for $20,000 at the 2013 Fasig-Tipton fall mixed sale, he sold the following year at OBS to David Crow for $30,000.

D’ Funnybone, an 8-year-old chestnut son of D’wildcat, won a pair of Grade 2 sprints at two, taking the Saratoga Special by more than ten lengths and Belmont’s Futurity by nearly five lengths. He followed up at three with victories in the Grade 2 Hutcheson and Grade 2 Swale, both at Gulfstream Park, and, later in the year, posted a three-length win in Belmont’s Grade 2 Woody Stephens, earning a Beyer Speed Figure of 100. He retired with a record of 6-3-0 from 15 starts and $686,700 in earnings.

Bred in Florida by Harold J. Plumley, D’ Funnybone is out of the Woodman mare Elbow, also the dam of stakes winner and graded stakes-placed Dr. Kathy. He hails from the female family of Grade 1 Top Flight Handicap-winner Chain Bracelet. He currently stands at Rockridge Stud in Hudson for a stud fee of $2,500 and has 36 2-year-olds in his first crop.
