New York-breds, both yearlings and older, certainly got a warm reception at the Fasig-Tipton July selected yearlings and horses of racing age sales which took place on Thursday at the auction company’s Lexington sales grounds.
As the yearling season kicked off, all nine New York-bred yearlings offered at the sale changed hands, topped by a colt from the first crop of New York sire Mission Impazible (Sequel Stallions New York) who fetched $155,000, and the group as a whole outperformed the average and median of the sale overall. Temper Mint Patty, recent runaway winner of the New York Oaks at Finger Lakes Gaming and Raceway, topped the horses of racing age sale, hammered down to Mike Repole for $350,000.
Bred by Twin Creeks Farm & Sequel Thoroughbreds, LLC and consigned by Sequel Stallions New York, Agent, the Mission Impazible colt (Hip 289) is a grey/roan youngster foaled on March 25, 2014 with a promising pedigree. Out of Deputy Reality, an unplaced daughter of Deputy Minister purchased by Twin Creeks Farm for $225,000 at the 2012 Keeneland November sale, he is a half-brother to Teeth of the Dog (Bluegrass Cat), winner of the Grade 2 Dwyer Stakes and earner of $414,950. The colt’s second dam is graded stakes performer and stakes winner Halo Reality. Empire Racing was the winning bidder with an offer of $155,000.
Mission Impazible, who stands at Sequel for $7,500, is a multiple Grade 2-winning millionaire by Unbridled’s song, who was campaigned by Twin Creeks Racing Stables and trained by Todd Pletcher.
Even better news is that the clearance rate for New York-breds at the yearling sale was unblemished by a single RNA. The seven colts and two fillies averaged a heady $99,000, with a $92,000 median, outperforming the overall sale which posted a $97,585 average and $77,000 median.
Temper Mint Patty (Congrats), a late addition to the horses of racing age sale and the final horse to go through the auction ring (Hip 524), stole that show when she was hammered down to Mike Repole for a sale-topping $350,000. The 3-year-old filly recorded her second stakes victory on July 3 for owner Mark Stanley, running away with the New York Oaks as the heavy favorite. Last year Temper Mint Patty won Belmont’s Joseph A. Gimma. With a record of 9-3-1-2, she has earned $274,050.
Jacob West, acting as Repole’s agent, said, “She’s heading up to Saratoga and going to Todd [Pletcher]. [Repole] was locked on her ever since they entered her in the sale. She’s a New York-bred filly that he knows can go and compete in some New York-bred stakes.”
Bred by Gallagher’s Stud in Ghent, Temper Mint Patty is one of two winners out of stakes-winning turf router His Beauty, a Gallagher homebred, who is the daughter of graded stakes winner and $435,597-earner Adcat, also a product of Gallagher’s breeding. The mare issues from the family of Deja, a multiple turf stakes winner in France. Purchased by Becky Thomas at the 2013 Fasig-Tipton preferred New York yearling sale, Temper Mint Patty was acquired by Stanley as a Fasig-Tipton March 2-year-old in training for $95,000.
