Day two of Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s 2015 June Sale of Two-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age produced a new New York-bred topper: a colt by Scat Daddy (Hip 362) purchased by trainer Linda Rice, agent, from the consignment of Lisa McGreevy’s Abbie Road Farm for $210,000, the fourth highest price of the day. On the first day of the sale a Kentucky-bred colt by Scat Daddy set a $575,000 OBS June record.

Bred by Joanne T. Nielsen, and foaled on February 16, 2013, Wednesday’s New York-bred sales star sold last summer at the Fasig-Tipton preferred New York-bred yearling sale for $135,000 to Champion Equine. In the under tack show on Tuesday, June 9, he breezed a co-bullet eighth in :10 flat.

The colt’s dam is Forever Smart, a stakes-placed turf runner by Smart Strike who is a half-sister to graded stakes winner Raging Daoust (Kafwain) and was bred in Kentucky by Arthur B. Hancock III. Last purchased by Find a Cure Stable for $21,000 at the 2010 Keeneland November sale, Forever Smart has produced three winners, including stakes performer Blue Baby, by Touch Gold. Since foaling the Scat Daddy colt, she has produced a yearling filly by Union Rags and a colt this year by Mineshaft.

Through the first two sessions of the OBS June sale, 25 New York-bred juveniles of 33 offered have sold for an average price of $38,828 (including two private sales), slightly better than the cumulative average for the general population of the sale, which is $37,100 The Empire-bred median thus far is $15,000, while the cumulative median is $19,000.

The June Sale continues Thursday at 10:30 a.m. (Hips 573-858).
