Geaux Mets romps in Ontario County

FARMINGTON, N.Y. – Geaux Mets was a convincing winner of the $50,000 Ontario County Stakes at Finger Lakes Gaming and Racetrack (F.L.G.R.) on Saturday. He took the 30th renewal of the dash for New York-bred 3-year-olds by twelve and one-half lengths.

The David Jacobson-trainee recorded a running time that was the second fastest in the history of the annual sprint. He completed the six furlong distance in a final time of 1:09.84. Smokin Hero remains the stakes record holder with his time of 1:09.25 in 2009.

Geaux Mets was guided to the dominant triumph by Jaime Rodriguez. He earned his fifth victory in his tenth career start to improve his lifetime earnings to a sum of $168,940.

The talented gelding owned by Gold Square LLC notched his first stakes victory and paid $4.10, $2.90 and $2.40. The Rhythmisright was a distant second and returned $2.80 and $2.20. Lady’s Smart Alec was third and paid $2.80.

2-year-old New York-breds will take center stage in the next stakes races on the F.L.G.R. schedule. The Lady Finger Stakes and the Aspirant Stakes will be run at a distance of six furlongs on September 6. The Labor Day co-features will each have an estimated total purse of over $100,000.
