Super Saver colt brings $175,000 at Keeneland November

Book 2 of the Keeneland November sale saw three six-figure New York-bred weanlings go through the auction ring, led by a $175,000 colt bred by SF Bloodstock LLC from the first crop of Grade 1 Kentucky Derby winner Super Saver.

Hip 1139, consigned by Craig and Holly Bandoroff’s Denali Stud, was purchased by WEF Stable late in the sale’s fourth session on Friday. The February colt is the first foal out of Broadway Hennessey, a Kentucky-bred juvenile stakes winner ($99,870) and 4 1/2-furlong track record-setter at Golden Gate Fields (51.70). Broadway Hennessey is out of stakes-placed producer of two stakes winners.

The second top New York weanling was a bay filly from the first crop of Majestic Perfection (Harlan’s Holiday), winner of the Grade 1 Vanderbilt H. Regis Farms acquired the foal for $145,000 from the consignment of Brereton C. Jones/Airdrie Stud. Bred by Jones, Hip 977 is out of Road to the Ball, a winning daughter of Cahill Road and dam of multiple graded stakes winner and millionaire Park Avenue Ball by Citidancer ($1,049,360). Road to the Ball has also produced stakes winner Beacon Hill Road by Forestry ($180,911) and two other winners.

The third six-figure weanling was a Tale of the Cat colt bred by William Parsons Jr. and David Howe who went to Snow Ridge Farm from the Hidden Brood consignment (Agent XIII) for $125,000 (Hip 1154). The colt’s dam Celestial Sweep (Eddington), who placed at three and has no progeny of racing age, is out of Gail’s Brush (Broad Brush), a graded stakes winner and dam of multiple graded winner Aud by Wild Again ($485,623).

Seven New York-bred weanlings in all sold in Books 1-2 at Keeneland for an average price of $89,857 and median of $67,000.
