A pair of New York-bred mares – one of them a Grade 1 producer and the other a Grade 1 winner – drew winning bids of seven figures at Monday’s Fasig-Tipton 2016 November sale.

The first to sell was proven producer Whatdreamsrmadeof, catalogued as Hip 100 and purchased by Summer Wind Equine for $1,650,000.The 12-year-old chestnut daughter of Graeme Hall, who was bred in New York by Sez Who Thoroughbreds and consigned by Brookdale Sales, Agent for Casa Farms I LLC, is the dam of star filly Curalina.

A 1.5 million-earner by Curlin for Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners, Curalina won three Grade 1 contests at three different racetracks (the Acorn at Belmont Park, Coaching Club American Oaks at the Spa and the La Troienne at Churchill Downs). Twenty-three hips after Whatdreamsrmadeof changed hands, Curalina commanded $3 million, the November sale’s second highest price, when purchased by Shadai Stud.

Whatdreamsrmadeof, who is a Grade 2-placed runner in her own right, sold Monday in foal again to Curlin on a March 11 cover.

The other New York-bred to send up seven-figure flares was Gary Barber and Sequel Racing’s Haveyougoneaway, Hip 142. The five-year-old daughter of Congrats, who was offered as a racing or broodmare prospect by Sequel Bloodstock Agent, was snapped up Lake Villa Farm for $1,100,000.

Bred by Andy and Susan Beadnell and foaled at Bead Land & Cattle Company in Pottersville, Haveyougoneaway had changed hands three times previously, but only for a fraction of this price.

A $50,000 weanling at the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Fall Mixed sale in 2011, Haveyougoneaway brought $105,000 at the Fasig-Tipton New York-bred preferred yearling sale. Then, when offered as a racing or a broodmare prospect at the 2013 Keeneland November sale, she was spirited away by Champion Racing Stable for just $1,200. For Champion, Haveyougoneaway went on to win or place in 10 listed stakes at Remington Park, Oaklawn, Prairie Meadows and earn $402,425.

Last spring Sequel Racing purchased the mare privately to take advantage of the New York program, turning her over to trainer Tom Morley. Following a runner up finish in the Critical Eye Stakes, Haveyougoneaway captured back-to-back-to-back wins in the Dancin Renee, Grade 2 Honorable Miss and Grade 1 Ballerina in Saratoga from which she earned an automatic berth in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint.
