Incentives

New York Thoroughbred Breeding and Development Fund Corporation administers an awards and incentives program for thoroughbreds foaled in New York and who race on New York tracks. The program was developed in 1973 to provide breeder's awards to encourage the establishment of thoroughbred farms in New York to protect and expand green space.

There are over 40 stakes races with total purses exceeding $4 million scheduled annually by the New York Racing Association and Finger Lakes Racing Association exclusively for registered New York-breds. In addition, there are over 600 races written each year in the state covering a wide range of conditions for registered New York-breds.

For registered New York stallions, the stallion owner continues to benefit financially beyond the standard stallion stud fees as the progeny race and earn purse money at New York racetracks. There is also a New York Stallion Stakes Series worth upwards of $900,000 consisting of 8+ stakes races exclusively for New York-sired horses.
