Miss Alacrity turned in an impressive 10-length debut victory on the dirt at Belmont Park in May and she proved to be just as effective on turf Sunday with an easy win in the Colleen Stakes at Monmouth Park.

As to be expected from a Wesley Ward trainee, Miss Alacrity wanted the lead early and dueled around the track through fractions of :21.20 and :44.74 in the 5-furlong race to get it.

The 2-year-old daughter of Munnings stuck her nose in front around the turn and had a half-length on Kodama as they turned into the stretch. Jockey Paco Lopez had it easy from there as Miss Alacrity pulled away with every stride to win by a deceivingly small 2 3/4 lengths in :57.23 as the race favorite.

“This is a very nice filly,” said Lopez. “She has a lot of talent. Wesley Ward had her ready. She was a little green but she is very talented. I can feel it. I was aggressive early because that’s how she likes to run but I did not have to make the lead.

“I stayed close to (Kodama) because I know that filly has a lot of speed and I wanted to make sure she didn’t get too far away. But this filly was too good. She can hook horses and still have plenty left. You can tell she’s a good one.”

CJ Thoroughbreds acquired Miss Alacrity after she didn’t bring her reserve the second time through the ring at last year’s Fasig-Tipton Selected Yearlings Showcase as part of the Bluewater Sales consigment. Her first time through the ring had proven to be more successful when sold as a weanling for $150,000 at the 2019 Keeneland November breeding stock sale to Canaan Creek Stables.

Legacy Bloodstock had offered her on behalf of breeder Milfer Farm, who foaled her at their property in Unadilla. The filly was their first out of multiple graded stakes winner winner Just Jenda, who had been purchased by Milfer for $32,000 at the previous year’s Keeneland November sale carrying the filly.

A daughter of Menifee, Just Jenda is the dam of four winners from four to race with Miss Alacrity joining Jenda’s Agenda as stakes winners for their dam. Miss Alacrity is the latest stakes winner from a successful family that also includes champion 2-year-old and Grade 1 Kentucky Derby winner Nyquist and Grade 1 Met Mile winner Sahara Sky among others on the packed page.

Just Jenda has a yearling filly by Destin and was bred to Palace Malice last year. She was sent to the late Laoban in 2021.
