A colt by 2021 leading New York sire Central Banker and a filly by Bernardini were among the quartet of six-figure New York-breds that sold during the opening session of the OBS April sale of 2-year-olds in training Tuesday in Ocala.

The haul of six-figure New York-breds started early – with the third juvenile through the ring bringing $120,000 – and continued throughout the strong opening session. OBS reported nine of the 17 New York-breds offered were sold Tuesday for $922,000, an average price of $102,444.

Hip 93[2], a filly by Bernardini out of stakes winner Above Fashion, led the way on a bid of $250,000 from West Bloodstock, agent for Repole Stable Inc. Consigned by Niall Brennan Stables, agent, the filly breezed an eighth in :10.1 during presale workouts.

Bred by Godolphin and Caliburn Farm LLC and foaled at Shorthill Farm in Ballston Spa, the filly was purchased by Crown Investments for $90,000 at last year’s Fasig-Tipton Saratoga New York-bred yearling sale out of the Fort Christopher’s Thoroughbreds consignment.

Above Fashion, a 9-year-old daughter of Paddy O’Prado, won three of 13 starts and earned $188,590 over two seasons. She’s the dam of one winner – the Star Guitar filly Star Fashion – from her first two foals. Above Fashion is also the dam of a New York-bred yearling filly by Bolt d’Oro that sold for $72,000 at last year’s Fasig-Tipton Kentucky fall mixed sale. She was bred to Vino Rosso in 2021.

Mathis Stable LLC purchased the Central Banker colt, sold as Hip 219[4] out of the de Meric Sales consignment, for $180,000. A full brother to multiple New York-bred stakes winner Sassy Agnes, he breezed in :10 during presale workouts.

Bred by McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds LLC and Jamey Gibson and foaled at McMahon of Saratoga in Saratoga Springs, the colt is out of the unraced Stormy Atlantic mare Bullish Sentiment. A full sister to Grade 3 winner Stormy’s Majesty, Bullish Sentiment is also the dam of seven-time winner and $330,870-earner Honey Money, a New York-bred daughter of Central Banker; and recent first-time starter Kingstown, a 4-year-old son of Central Banker. Sassy Agnes won or placed in five of seven starts, collecting three stakes wins in the fall of 2018, and earned $198,782.

Bullish Sentiment is also the dam of a yearling New York-bred colt by Blame and a filly by the late former leading New York-based freshman sire Laoban born March 29. The yearling and newborn were co-bred by Gibson and McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds. Central Banker stands for $7,500 at McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds in Saratoga Springs.

Hip 5[5], a colt by Good Samaritan and the third horse in the ring Tuesday, started things off for the Empire State on a $120,000 bid from L.E.B., agent for West Point Thoroughbreds. Consigned by Top Line Sales LLC, agent, the colt out of the winning Candy Ride mare Uman Candy breezed an eighth in :10.1.
