Uncle Mo colt sells for $160,000 at September sale

A colt by leading sire Uncle Mo led the way for the Empire State Thursday at the Keeneland September yearling sale, selling for $160,000 during the second of two Book 2 sessions in Lexington.

M.B.S., agent, purchased Hip 842[2], the second foal out of the Bernardini mare Possessive from the family of Grade 1 winner and young sire Klimt. Bred by Pine Ridge Stables Ltd. and foaled at Waldorf Farm in North Chatham, the colt was consigned by Paramount Sales, agent.

The colt is a half-brother to Yono, also bred by Pine Ridge Stables and a $100,000 yearling at last year’s Fasig-Tipton Kentucky October sale. Second in his first start Aug. 20 at Ellis Park, the 2-year-old Kentucky-bred Quality Road colt is entered back in a maiden special weight Saturday at Churchill Downs.

Hip 842 was one of two New York-breds through the ring Thursday. Overall, seven of the 10 New York-bred yearlings have sold for $1,730,000, an average price of $247,142.

Keeneland takes a break from selling Friday before Book 3 resumes at 11 a.m. Saturday.
