A daughter of Constitution brought $175,000 during Thursday’s second session of the OBS June sale of 2-year-olds and horses of racing age to climb into the top spot among all New York-breds to sell at the final significant juvenile auction of the season.

Blue Lion Thoroughbreds signed for the filly, selling as Hip 469[2], out of the consignment of Pick View LLC, agent.

Bred by Newtownanner Stud and foaled at Jack’s Farm on the Hill in Millbrook, the filly is the sixth foal out of the winning Giant’s Causeway mare Lady Aphrodite. The filly, a $95,000 RNA at last year’s Fasig-Tipton Select Yearling Showcase, breezed an eighth in :10.2 during presale workouts.

Lady Aphrodite is the dam of four winners – all Newtownanner New York-breds – including the Flatter gelding Mr. Massena who won three races and earned $146,325. Lady Aphrodite, sold in foal to Violence for $37,000 to Southern Oak Farm at this year’s Fasig-Tipton Kentucky February mixed sale, did not produce a foal in 2020. She delivered the Violence foal, a filly, on March 13.

McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds’ Central Banker continued his strong spring when Braun English Wolf went to $100,000 for Hip 603[3], a colt by the leading New York-based sire, during the second session.

Bred by Carl Bennett and consigned by Brandon and Ali Rice’s RiceHorse Stable, the colt is out of the Pleasant Tap mare Nine Taps and was foaled at Hilltop Stables in Deposit. The third foal out of the mare, he breezed an eighth in :10 during presale workouts.

RiceHorse Stable purchased the colt as a weanling for $2,000 at the 2019 Keeneland November breeding stock sale. He then was reported sold for $20,000 at last year’s OBS October yearling sale before being withdrawn from this year’s OBS March sale of selected 2-year-olds in training.

OBS reported sales on 27 of the 40 New York-breds offered in the session for $644,200, an average price of $23,859. Four New York-breds have sold for $100,000 or more through the first two sessions.

The OBS June sale continues Friday with the third and final session at 10:30 a.m. ET.
