New York-bred Grade 1 winners Tiz the Law and Simply Ravishing are among the 184 horses entered for the 2020 Breeders’ Cup World Championships and both will begin their quests to win from inside post positions at Keeneland Race Course.

Tiz the Law drew post 2 in a loaded renewal of Saturday’s $6 million Breeders’ Cup Classic, which features a field of 10 led by seven Grade 1 winners.

Sackatoga Stable’s Tiz the Law is one of those seven, with four Grade 1 victories in his career and three in 2020. The 3-year-old son of Constitution, winner of the Grade 1 Florida Derby, Belmont Stakes and Travers Stakes in succession before a close second to Authentic in the Kentucky Derby, is the 3-1 second choice on the morning line for jockey Manny Franco in the 10-furlong Classic.

Bred by Twin Creeks Farm and foaled at Sequel Stallions NY in Hudson, Tiz the Law is trained by Barclay Tagg.

“(The post position) would not have been our first choice but you watch his races this year, he pops out of the gate so he is going to be able to get in a good position,” Sackatoga’s Jack Knowlton said. “We are not worried about it.”

Tagg, bidding for his first Breeders’ Cup victory with his 11th starter, agreed.

“I’d rather have that than the 15 in a 15-horse race,” he said. “It is what it is. He’s fit; he’s healthy; he’s doing well. I can’t do any more for him.”

Improbable, winner of the Grade 1 Whitney at Saratoga and Grade 1 Awesome Again at Santa Anita Park in his last two starts, is the 5-2 morning-line favorite from post 8 for trainer Bob Baffert. Maximum Security, also trained by Baffert, drew post 10 and is the 7-2 second choice.

Eight New York-breds have run in the Classic – Thunder Rumble, L’Carriere, Gander, Funny Cide, Effinex Haynesfield, Zivo and Mind Your Biscuits. Two finished second– Effinex to American Pharoah in 2015 at Keeneland and L’Carriere to Cigar in 1995 at Belmont Park.

Simply Ravishing drew post 1 of seven entered for Friday’s $2 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies, the smallest field of the weekend.

The unbeaten 2-year-old daughter of Laoban, owned by Harold Lerner, Magdalena Racing and Nehoc Stables and trained by Ken McPeek, is the co-second choice on the morning line at 5-2. Grade 1 Frizette and Grade 3 Schuylerville winner Dayoutoftheoffice was also pegged at 5-2 with unbeaten Californian Princess Noor the 9-5 favorite.

Bred by Meg Levy and foaled at Stonegate Stables in Ford Edward, Simply Ravishing bids for the first Juvenile Fillies win by a New York-bred. She’ll be the eighth New York-bred starter in the 1 1/16-mile event, joining Artemis Agrotera, Cadillac Women, Doremifasollatido, Miss Iron Smoke, Shesastonecoldfox, Weemissfrankie and Wonder Gal. Three finished third – Cadillac Women in 1991 at Churchill Downs, Weemissfrankie in 2011 at Churchill and Wonder Gal in 2014 at Santa Anita Park.

Tiz the Law and Simply Ravishing will also attempt to become the fourth Breeders’ Cup winner bred in New York, joining 2017 Filly and Mare Sprint winner Bar of Gold, 2014 Filly and Mare Turf winner Dayatthespa and 2013 Marathon winner London Bridge.
