Two New York-bred yearlings found new homes for healthy price tags during the three blockbuster sessions of Keenland’s first book at the sale company’s annual September yearling sale (Monday-Wednesday). A third New York-bred went unsold on final bid of $285,000.

The top New York-bred seller of Book 1 was Hip 403[2], who was purchased by Brick City Thoroughbreds for $310,000 from the consignment of Eaton Sales, Agent, in Wednesday’s third session.

A bay colt by Quality Road from the family of Bodemeister, Hip 403 was bred by Albert Fried Jr. and foaled on March 26, 2018. The colt’s dam is Front and Center, a placed runner by Dynaformer who was purchased by Fried at the 2017 Keeneland November breeding stock sale for $75,000 with the sale colt in utero.

Out of multiple graded stakes winner Parade Queen, Front and Center is a half-sister to two stakes winners, led by Untouched Talent, a graded stakes winner and the dam of millionaire and successful sire Bodemeister. Front and Center delivered a colt by War Dancer on March 23, 2019 and has been bred to Shaman Ghost. An attractive sales prospect from the start, the Quality Road colt brought $310,000 as a weanling at the 2018 Keeneland November sale.

Also offered in Wednesday’s session was Hip 452[3], a dark bay/brown colt by into Mischief, who RNA’d on final bid of $285,000. Bred by William Butler and the first foal out of multiple winning New York-bred In Spite of Mama (Speightstown), the well-regarded colt was also a buy-back at last year’s Keeneland’s November sale when bid up to $300,000.

The lone New York-bred to go through the ring on Tuesday’s second day of trading also attracted strong interest. Hip 287[4], a bay filly by Quality Road foaled March 27, 2018, went to Don Robinson, Agent, for $250,000. Bred by Albaugh Family Stables LLC and consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency, Agent CLXIV, Hip 287 is the first foal out of Cahirciveen, a New York-bred winner by Giant’s Causeway owned and bred by Waterville Lake Stable and trained by Christophe Clement. Albaugh bought the mare in foal for $200,000 at the 2017 Keeneland November sale. She currently has a weanling colt by Union Rags and is not currently in foal after being bred to Cairo Prince.

Following Thursday’s dark day at Keeneland, sale sessions start at 10 a.m. each day from Friday through Sunday, September 22. Books 2-6 will each be spread out over two sessions.
