In the Thursday-Friday sessions of Keenland’s November breeding stock sale comprising Book 2 of the catalogue, the New York-bred contingent produced a pair of standout weanlings. Also, the cumulative clearance rate for New York-breds overall has also been encouraging.

The New York-bred weanling topper was a colt by City Zip, who was hammered down in Friday’s session to Osprey Bloodstock for $240,000.

The bay, who sold as Hip 933, is a late May foal bred by James Lamonica, Lee Sacks and Soave Stables. Consigned by Indian Creek, Agent, the Breeder’s Cup-nominated weanling is out of stakes producer Nick’s Honor, the dam of multiple stakes winner The Lewis Dinner, an earner of over $260,000 by Posse, and stakes winner Kelli Got Frosty by Frost Giant. Nick’s Honor, an unraced daughter of Jump Start was been bred back this year to City Zip.

Thursday’s trading saw the sale of the top New York-bred weanling filly (Hip 752), a daughter of Giant’s Causeway from the family of multiple graded stakes winner and millionaire Life at Ten. She commanded the seventh highest weanling price of the overall when Alastar Thoroughbred Co., LLC made a winning bid of $230,000. Greenfield Farm (B. D. Gibbs Farm, LLC), Agent VII was her consignor.

The sale filly is the second foal out of Cocoanut Row a Florida-bred winner by Mineshaft who is a half sister to stakes winner Dixie Dreamer and Dixie High. The sale filly’s third dam is Saratoga Ten, the dam of Life at Ten.

The cumulative New York-bred RNA percentage for the sale currently stands at 23.3%, which compares favorably to the sale’s figure of 29.5% (30 offered, 23 sold). The other New York-bred indicators are solid. The cumulative average through Book 2 is $115,739, while the median price is $95,000. Five individuals have sold for over $200,000; six have brought six figures.

The overall sale average through Book 2 is down just a tick to $224,221. The cumulative sale median stands at $125,000, down 9.1% from 2015.
