Through the conclusion of Monday’s eighth session of the 12-day Keeneland November Breeding Stock Sale, which also wrapped Book 4 of the catalogue, New York-breds are doing a good job of finding new homes as they enjoy a buy-back rate that is well below the percentage of the general population of the sale.

Of 67 New York-bred lots offered in eight days of trading thus far, 56 have sold for a resulting 16.42 % RNA percentage, which is well below the cumulative Keeneland RNA rate which stands at 26.43% (up from 22% in 2014).

The weanlings in particular are selling well, despite a large number of outs. Of 15 to pass through the sales ring, 14 have sold. The New York-bred weanling topper is still Hip 1137, a filly by Tale of the Cat who sold in session 4 (read more).

The Keeneland sale embarks on the two final books with a cumulative sale average of $119,637, which is 11.93 percent above last year’s $106,890, and a median which has increased from $51,000 to $52,000. The New York-bred average price now stands at $68,116 and the median at $45,000.

Sessions start at 10 a.m. The entire sale is streamed live at Keeneland.com.
