New York-breds produced solid enough results during the four-day stand of the Fasig-Tipton October fall yearling sale at the Newtown Paddocks in Lexington this week, while the sale, as a whole, suffered slight across-the-board declines.
Of the 104 New York-bred yearlings offered, 68 sold for an average price of $28,215 and $15,000 median. The buyback rate was 34.6%. Cumulatively the average for the general population of the sale was $34,390, while the median ended up at $15,000. The cumulative RNA rate for the sale was 30.7%.
Fasig-Tipton President Boyd Browning, Jr. said, “[The sale] was not dramatically different from 2014. The market for a horse below $15,000 in terms of value is extremely difficult. From $15,000 to $50,000, it is sticky but still manageable, and once you get above $50,000 it is pretty dadgum good. It was almost like a three-tiered marketplace.”
The top New York-bred seller, who changed hands during Monday’s first session of trading, was a Candy Ride (ARG) filly bred by The New Hill Farm, LLC who was purchased by Conquest Stables for $150,000[2]. In all, four New York-bred yearlings brought $100,000 and up. In addition to the top filly, a bay colt by Tapizar bred by Fred W. Hertrich III and dark bay or brown filly by Tale of the Cat bred by Pine Ridge Stables, Ltd. fetched $125,000 and $100,000 respectively in session two[3].
The fourth six-figure yearling, who changed hands in Wednesday’s session three and ended up as the second highest-selling New York-bred, was Hip 844[4], a Stormy Atlantic filly purchased by Jim and Susan Hill for $130,000 from the consignment of War Horse Place LLC.
Bred by Wellspring Stables, LLC, the bay filly is out of Raffie’s Dream, a stakes-performing and graded stakes-producing daughter of Raffie’s Majesty. An earner of over $170,000, Raffie’s Dream is the dam of three winners from three foals to start, led by Stormy’s Majesty, who won four stakes races, including the Grade 3 Discovery Handicap and earned more than $336,000. The mare has a weanling filly this year by Congrats.
The next sale on the Fasig-Tipton calendar comes up immediately. The Saratoga fall mixed sale takes place Monday October 26, beginning at 10 a.m. Click here[5] to view the available New York-bred hips.
