(Edited press release)

Saratoga Springs, NY — Major Gain has been retired from racing and will stand the 2016 season at McMahon of Saratoga Thoroughbreds.

A son of internationally successful More Than Ready, Major Gain was bred and initially raced for Gary and Mary West Stables, Inc. Joe McMahon commented, “We are pleased to stand the first son of More Than Ready in New York. A graded stakes winner in his second start at two, Major Gain offers breeders a very successful precocious sire line in New York racing, plus his full sister is Grade 1 stakes winner Room Service.”

In his second start at two, Major Gain won the Grade 3 Arlington-Washington Futurity. Impressing horsemen and handicappers he was the favorite in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Futurity. Major Gain placed third in Churchill Downs’ Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club S., only a head behind major performer Astrology.

Rewarded for his prowess at two, Major Gain was weighed 115 pounds on the Experimental Free Handicap, equal to Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Classic winner Mucho Macho Man and Astrology, while being weighted above Grade 1 winners Stay Thirsty and Caleb’s Posse, whom he defeated in the Arlington-Washington Futurity.

With a single start at 3, Major Gain was somewhat compromised thereafter. He won on turf and synthetic over one mile, as well as his Grade 2 placing on dirt. His sire More Than Ready has earned accolades in both hemispheres. His Grade I winning sons to recently enter stud include Verrazano and Daredevil, and in Australia his son Sebring is a highly rated young sire.

Out of stakes winning, graded placed Dream Lady, a granddaughter of leading broodmare sire A.P. Indy, she has produced multiple Grade 1 winner Room Service, a full sister to Major Gain and the stakes winning Dixie Union mare Oscar Party. Other notables in his immediate family include stakes winners Aubby K-G1, Zapata-G1, Lilly Capote-G3 and London Lil-G3.

Joe McMahon added, “His owners are offering several options to breeders, in 2016 Major Gain will stand for $2,500 live foal. Genomics assessed by ThoroughGen tell us his score of 91 is higher than many of the nation’s leading sires and is the second highest score of any major sire in New York, only Freud is higher at 94. Currently being syndicated for $5,000 per share at 50 shares, shareholders will get three seasons for the first three years and one breeding thereafter, or a lifetime breeding right can be purchased for $3,500.”
