At the conclusion of four days of trading at the 2015 Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s June Sale of Two-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age, which posted record numbers for gross sales and average price, New York-bred juveniles emerged with a rock-solid tally sheet.

Of the 66 New York-bred juveniles offered during the four sessions, 50 changed hands, including four private sales, for a 24.3% buyback rate, which was a tick better than the figure for the auction buyback percentage of 25.5%.

The New York-bred median at OBS was $17,500, on par with the overall $18,000 auction median, but the New York-bred average of $32,014 could not quite keep pace with the OBS June record average of $39,722. The overall average was bolstered by lots of activity at the top end, with twenty juveniles bringing $200,000 or more against ten a year ago. The New York-bred number is more in line with the previous record average for the June sale, $33,250 posted in 2013.

In all, four Empire-breds brought six figures, topped by a Scat Daddy colt (Hip 362) purchased by trainer Linda Rice for $210,000 in session two of the sale. Read more.

In the sale’s fourth and concluding session, the New York-bred standout was Hip 1067, a grey/roan colt by Discreet Cat, who was purchased by J S Company Ltd. for $150,000. Purchased by Laurence Leavy for a mere $15,000 at the Fasig-Tipton New York-bred preferred yearling sale last summer in Saratoga, the colt RNA’d for $70,000 at the OBS Spring sale, but clearly opened a few more eyes with a :20 3/5 quarter-mile breeze in advance of OBS June.

Bred by Dr. Jerry Bilinski in partnership with Harry Patten, the January colt is out of is Two Bad Girls, a winning Florida-bred daughter of Diablo who has been a consistent producer, with six winners from six foals to start. The mare’s headliner is her first foal, Twice as Bad, a Grade 2 winner by Stormy Atlantic. The mare is also the dam of stakes performer Twiceasbeautiful (Texas Glitter). She currently has a yearling colt by Hansen and a weanling colt by Bustin Stones.
