Little Miss Lupe upsets Susan B. Anthony

FARMINGTON, N.Y. – Little Miss Lupe scored an upset victory in the 35th renewal of the $50,000 Susan B. Anthony Stakes at Finger Lakes Gaming & Racetrack on Saturday. She won the annual sprint for older New York-bred fillies and mares at odds of 9-1.

The 5-year-old mare owned by Tage Boohit [and bred by Wellspring Stables] surged past Alwaysinstilettos in the concluding stages of the rich event to secure the triumph by one-half length. She covered the six furlong distance in a final time of 1:13.52.

Trainer Neville Henry recorded his first career stakes victory on Saturday. Henry had only four prior starts in stakes before the seventh race triumph.

Little Miss Lupe registered her eighth lifetime win to improve her career earnings to a sum of $185,164. She was guided to the surprise victory by jockey Jeremias Flores and paid $21.00, $12.80 and $3.70. Alwaysinstilettos paid $7.50 and $3.50 for finishing second. Jazzminegem ended up third as the 1-2 public choice and returned $2.10.

The George W. Barker Stakes is the next blacktype event on the Finger Lakes live racing calendar. The six furlong sprint for older New York-breds is scheduled for Friday, June 5.
