Finger Lakes 2015 meet off and running

FARMINGTON, N.Y. – The 2015 live racing season at Finger Lakes Gaming & Racetrack (FLGR) got underway on Friday with a longshot winner in the first race. Lo Gin and Tonic scored the upset at odds of 28-1.

The 4-year-old filly was guided to the three and three quarter length triumph by jockey Gabriel Suarez. She achieved the gate-to-wire victory in a final time of :56.17 for the four and one-half furlong distance.

The first race exacta was swept by trainer Pablo Torres. Cassie’s Harbor finished second behind her stablemate to complete the sweep for Torres. The same barn exacta returned $313.00 for a $2.00 wager.

Trainer Chris Englehart and jockey Jaime Rodriguez were both honored for their respective 2014 titles after the running of the sixth race.

Englehart saddled 97 winning horses to earn his 14th career trainer title. He was the top conditioner for the twelfth consecutive season. Rodriguez won his second consecutive FLGR jockey title last year with 160 victories.

Rodriguez had two victories on the 2015 opening day card for trainer Jeremiah Englehart. He won the fourth aboard Saratoga Shock before taking the fifth with Barbara Maria.

For the third consecutive year, trainer James Acquilano and jockey Michael Davila recorded doubles on the opening day card. Oscar Gomez also got off to a good start with a pair of victories.

Live racing continues on Saturday with an 8-race card as well as simulcast wagering of the 141st Run for the Roses.
