Thursday’s third session of the 2015 Ocala Breeders’ Sales Company’s spring sale of 2-year-olds in training saw a third New York-bred hit the $300,000 mark when Hip 876, a grey/roan juvenile by Unbridled’s Song, became the sale’s new top-selling New York-bred filly. Trainer John C. Kimmel signed the ticket on behalf for Tobey L. Morton.

Bred by Gainesway Thoroughbreds LTD and foaled on April 14, 2013 at Edition Farm in Hyde Park, Hip 876 posted a :10 2/5 eighth work last Friday for consignor SGV Thoroughbreds (Steven Venosa), Agent. As a yearling she was purchased by Douglas A. Arnold at the Fasig-Tipton New York-bred preferred sale in Saratoga for $135,000.

The new filly topper is the first foal out of Church Camp, a young stakes-winning Kentucky-bred mare by Forest Camp. Purchased in foal by Gainesway at the 2012 Keeneland November sale for $200,000, Church Camp comes from the family of multiple graded stakes winner Middlesex Drive and is a half-sister to stakes performer Jodys Deelight.

Another standout New York-bred filly by a young mare on Wednesday at OBS was Hip 605, a chestnut daughter of Curlin, who was purchased by Stonestreet Stables for $260,000 after working an eighth in :10 1/5.

Bred in partnership by Pucker Ridge Farm LLC and Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings LLC and foaled on April 10, 2013 at Pucker Ridge Farm in Warrensburg, the Curlin filly is the first registered New York-bred, and second foal out of Trust N Intuition, a winning daughter of Trust N Luck bred in New York by Jan Sherrard and Leigh Bartlett. The dam of Trust N Intuition, Mandy’s Miss, is a sister to multiple stakes winner Monk’s Falcon and to stakes winner and producer Darlene’s Friend.

Through the first three days of the Ocala juvenile auction, 57 New York-breds have sold of 79 offered, including 9 private sales, which translates to a 28 percent buyback rate, more or less on par with the general sales buyback percentage of 26.8.

Six New York-breds have brought six figures so far and have averaged $69,895 per lot with a median price of $50,000. In the general population of the sale, the cumulative average is $77,587, up 4.3 percent from $74,359 in 2013, and the median stands at $48,000, up 3.2 percent from $47,000.

The fourth and final session at OBS begins on Friday at 10:30 a.m.
