Grade 1 winner and millionaire Courageous Cat, a 6-year-old son of Storm Cat out of multiple Grade 1 winner Tranquility Lake, will stand at Questroyal North in Stillwater for the 2013 breeding season. Questroyal has set his stud fee at $6,000 LF.

Courageous Cat entered stud at Lane’s End Farm in 2012 after winning six races for his breeders, Martin and Pam Wygod, including the Grade 1 Shoemaker Mile. He also captured the Grade 2 National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame S., the Grade 3 Canadian Turf S. and the Grade 3 Poker S. Courageous Cat fell just a neck short of winning the Grade 1, $1 million Ricoh Woodbine Mile S. As a sophomore, Courageous Cat finished second by just a half length to the great Goldikova (Ire) in the Grade 1 Breeders’ Cup Mile. He won graded stakes at Belmont Park, Saratoga, Gulfstream Park and Hollywood Park and came between 17/100ths and 3/5ths of a second of the course record in all four events. His career earnings totaled $1,165,760.

Out of the multiple Grade 1 winning Rahy mare Tranquility Lake, Courageous Cat is a full brother to two graded winners, including Grade 1 winner After Market, who stands at Lane’s End.

William S. Farish of Lane’s End, which purchased an interest in Courageous Cat after he retired, said, “Lane’s End has the highest expectations for Courageous Cat at stud because of his impeccable breeding, race record and conformation. We are excited to partner with Questroyal Stud in standing Courageous Cat in New York. Lane’s End and Martin and Pam Wygod, who bred and campaigned Courageous Cat, plan to continue to support him during his second year at stud and welcome the opportunity to participate in the New York breeding program.”

Barry Ostrager, principal owner of Questroyal North, added, “ With the arrival of Courageous Cat at Questroyal North, New York breeders are going to have the rare opportunity to breed to a magnificent Grade 1-winning son of Storm Cat out of a Grade 1-winning Rahy mare.

“Courageous Cat was one of the top milers of his generation and Questroyal North is absolutely thrilled to stand Courageous Cat for such marvelous connections.”  Ostrager also noted that Courageous Cat’s full brother, After Market, is off to a tremendous start at stud as fourth-leading second-crop sire of stakes winners and current progeny earnings of more than $1.6 million.

Courageous Cat will be joining new sire Boys At Tosconova, along with El Corredor, Patriot Act and Roaring Fever on the roster at Questroyal North.
