Former New York-bred graded winners – now broodmares – Don’t Forget Gil and I Lost My Choo sold for over a half million dollars between them in Book 1 of Keeneland’s November Breeding Stock Sale.
Don’t Forget Gil (Kafwain), a Grade 1 placed graded stakes winner and New York Champion 3-Year-Old Female of 2009, was purchased by Teruya Yoshida’s Japan-based Shadai Farm for $360,000 from the Taylor Made consignment (Agent CXXV). Hammered down in Keeneland’s first session as Hip 188[1], Don’t Forget Gil is in foal to Candy Ride.
An Alan Brodsky color-bearer, Don’t Forget Gil was bred by Jonathan Thorne and foaled at Thorndale Farm in Millbrook. Out of the black type placed Mt. Livermore mare Livermore Leslie, she was purchased by Brodsky for $43,000 at the 2007 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Preferred sale of New York-bred yearlings.
Don’t Forget Gil raced for three seasons, capturing the Grade 3 Florida Oaks, the open Wayward Lass and restricted East View. Her six stakes placings include runner-up finishes in the Grade 1 Coaching Club American Oaks and Grade 2 Comely Stakes in 2009. Retired in 2010 with a record of 4-3-4 from 19 starts and $370,737 in earnings, she sold at the Fasig-Tipton Fall Mixed sale for $200,000 to SF Bloodstock. In 2012 she gave birth to a filly by Super Saver.
Multiple graded winner I Lost My Choo will also be heading to Japan, purchased from the Three Chimneys Sales consignment by the Yushun Company for $145,000 in Session 1 (Hip 33[2]).
Bred and campaigned by the late Carl Lizza’s Flying Zee Stables, the 7-year-old daughter of long-time New York sire Western Expression is out of the winning Tom Rolfe mare Fairy Queen, who also produced stakes winner Kevin’s Decision (Expensive Decision).
Exclusively a grass runner, I Lost My Choo was a seven-time winner in three seasons of racing. The bay won the Grade 3 Virginia Oaks at Colonial Downs, the Grade 3 Honey Fox at Gulfstream Park, and a pair of restricted stakes at Belmont: the Mount Vernon and Elmont. Her three stakes placings include third place finishes in the Grade 2 Sands Point and Grade 3 Appalachian. She retired with a record of 7-1-2 from 13 starts and earnings in the amount of $442,740.
Not included in the “mixed” portion of the Flying Zee Dispersal at the Fasig-Tipton Midlantic mixed sale in December 2011, I Lost My Choo sold on Tuesday in foal to Tiznow.
