Flying Zee homebred Goodtime Boy swung out midstretch to tackle and collar pacesetter Ganador in a $50,000 claiming race for New York-bred juveniles at Saratoga on Wednesday, giving York First-Crop Sire Stonesider[2] his first career winner.

Nine days after a muddy five-panel debut in a restricted maiden special weight race at Saratoga, Carlos Martin-trained Goodtime Boy faced seven rivals on Wednesday going six furlongs. The 2.35-1 post time favorite got a ground saving trip in fifth under apprentice jockey Ryan Curatolo, but staying within striking distance of the pacesetter, first-time starter Ganador, who set fractions of 22.43 and 46.37. Goodtime Boy closed within a length of the leader in upper stretch under a hustling ride and, around the furlong marker, angled out, drew nearly even with Ganador at the sixteenth pole, and despite some greenness on the part of both, took over the lead just before the finish to win by a neck in 1:13.08 over fast going. Stonesider is a handsome eight-year-old chestnut son Giant’s Causeway, who won his lone start for breeder Stonerside Stable and trainer Todd Pletcher, taking a 5 1/2-furlong maiden special weight at Belmont at two in 1:03.32.

Stonesider’s dam Added Gold, by Gilded Time, was a winner of the Grade 2 Black-Eyed Susan and earner of $222,000. All three of her foals to race are winners. Second dam Added Elegance (Stutz Blackhawk) was likewise a graded winner. She produced two graded winners, as well as winner Added Time, dam of Grade 1 Spinaway winner Irish Smoke ($217,241) and stakes winner King Puma, both of whom won at two.

Stonesider, who had an $82,000 Saratoga New York-bred preferred yearling filly in 2010, has been one of the most popular stallions in New York since he entered stud in 2008. He has 40 two-year-olds in his first crop, 45 yearlings and bred 83 mares in 2010

Stonesider stands at Highcliff Farm[5] in Delanson for $3,000.
